How Long Will It Take to Clear My Acne?
There are a few questions, I think, that comes across every acne sufferer’s mind when they find a new acne treatment plan:
How Long Does it Take to Clear Your Acne?
1.) Does this actually work?
2.) How much is it going to cost me?
3.) How long will it take to clear my acne?
4.) Wait… really, does this actually work?
5.) And who’s that guy in those “How To Clear Your Acne” youtube videos?
DOES THIS ACTUALLY WORK?
The first couple questions are definitely legitimate questions. Why would you want to buy something that doesn’t work? And by this point, I think a lot of acne sufferers are a little bit more skeptical about trusting acne products than ever before.
HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST ME?
And of course, everyone wants to know how much it’s going to cost. Because sometimes, as much as we want something, if it’s going to cost an arm and a leg, it’s probably not going to happen. Of course, it’s necessary to balance the cost and benefits when thinking about any purchase, but if you’re the type of person who may think that it’s WORTH an arm and a leg, it’s probably not what you think. It’s also probably not a good idea to give up an arm and a leg for for clear skin.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO CLEAR MY ACNE?
The first question is an obvious one, the second question is something most of us probably think of after the fact that we’ve pretty much already decided on purchasing, but it’s this third question that brings into the mix: practicality.
WHAT YOU’RE PROBABLY THINKING
Because I could have the perfect solution, but it’s going to take you 10 years to clear your acne. It’s probably not the deal that you were looking for then. And I think that’s what a lot of you are probably thinking something like this and probably along this order of thoughts:
1.) Wow, I can’t believe I found this site. =)
2.) What he’s saying all makes sense,
3.) There must be some sort of catch…
4.) This is too good to be true.
5.) Hmm… I wonder how long it takes?
6.) Yeah… it probably takes forever.
7.) I better find out.
Okay… so And the truth of the matter is that some of you have probably tried an acne treatment product or two… or three… or 10. And in you’re experience, there ultimately has been some sort of catch in every scenario. Either it would give you nicer skin, but you broke out on your left butt cheek or something, or you may be acne free, but your lips and eyes were incredibly dry. Or maybe it solved your acne problems, but now you have the added bonus of depression, extra bone growth, and some blindness…
*COUGH*
*ACCUTANE*
*AHEM*
I’m sorry, excuse me.
Normally, I don’t cough while writing my articles and normally, physical things I do in the real world don’t somehow get manifested onto paper like coughing, sneezing, or if I got up to use the restroom right now [walks downstairs and grabs a quick snack] but I don’t know how that mentioning of HOW BAD ACCUTANE CAN BE FOR YOU AND YOUR LIFE got snuck up in there. Anyway…
Most of you believe there’s always a catch, and that’s probably why some of you have even emailed me asking if this really works or how long it might take. Could it be possible that some of you might actually be looking for or expecting this acne regimen to fail?
Well you’re out of luck, because that secret undisclosed clause where you sign on the dotted line for clear skin and somehow unknowingly sell your soul over to the devil is NOT here. In other words, you can’t stop worrying.
OKAY, GET TO THE POINT. SO HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
You can clear your fast as fast as 3 weeks to as long as 3 months or even longer.
That’s’ right, following this regimen, you can actually get clear skin in as little as 3 weeks. But it could also take a longer depending on severity of the situation, your body type, and how well you follow the directions.
WAIT… WHAT DO YOU MEANS “DEPENDS” & “COULD ALSO TAKE LONGER?”
This one’s important. This is the reason why I don’t like telling people how long it will take to clear “their” acne. Because in most cases, they either haven’t given me enough details to allow me to understand their body types, their acne severity and situation, or I don’t know how well they can follow directions and be proactive in helping themselves, or [insert whatever excuse, mistake, or anything else that I might not be able to predict in the future HERE].
When I say “depends” and it could also take “longer,” what I mean by that is that how long it takes for you to clear your acne depends on these factors:
1.) How bad is your acne?
2.) How “unhealthy” is your body?
3.) Do you understand how to treat your body?
4.) Do you completely understand the steps of the regimen?
5.) How well do you follow through? How’s your willpower?
6.) Are you proactive? Do you ask questions? Do you seek to understand and learn?
Everyone’s body is different. Everyone’s personality and knowledge of this subject of acne is different too. In most cases, I don’t know how much you know, I don’t know how you treat your body on a day to day basis, I don’t know how strong your willpower is. So how do I know if you’re doing all the steps right? How do I know how bad your acne is if I’ve never seen a picture of your face? How do I know whether or not YOU KNOW what you’re doing?
I usually don’t. And that’s why I say it depends because the estimation of how long it will take to clear your acne depends on more than one thing: YOU. It depends on you, and YOU are made up of more than just a face. We are all made up of personalities, intellect, willpower, curiosity, and emotional intellect.
So then a lot of people seem to ask me, “Well… can you give me a rough estimate?”
Let me ask you this, “Can you tell me how long it will take to fix a car?” (LoL, for those of you who have read my previous articles, I have no idea why I always choose cars as my examples)
And you would probably say, “Well… it depends.”
Then I would reply, “Can you give me a rough estimate?”
Get where I’m going with this?
The answer is that it depends on what kind of repair do you need, how good the mechanic is, what kind of condition the car is at, blah blah blah. Make sense? If you have a beginner mechanic and a difficult problem, it make take a long time to clear the acne on that car. However, if you have a great mechanic and a simple problem, the acne on the car might not be too bad and it might be very quick to clear up. Then again, even if you had an easy problem but the mechanic didn’t know what he was doing, chances are it could still end up taking forever just for him to figure out how to fix it. Because the guy won’t know what he’s doing!
Either way, you’ve got to take your car to the mechanic. So do you want to do it the right way and take your car to an ALL NATURAL MECHANIC or do you want to throw on ProActiv for $19.95 a month (or however much it costs now) and see how it doesn’t work for you?
There, if YOU ARE the mechanic and you’re not sure what you’re doing, it might take longer for you to clear your acne than say… if someone who DID KNOW what they were doing were standing by your side and guiding you. If that’s the case and you don’t want to take the time to experiment with your acne because you’ve tried that and you’d rather follow the advice of someone who’s “been there, done that,” you may want to think about hiring someone or having someone who knows what they’re doing guide you. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU, RAY?
3-6 months. Actually, it took around 3-4 months but the reason why I’m saying 3-6 months is because honestly, at the time, I really didn’t know what I was doing. I was on my own. And I’m a pretty careful and detailed person when it comes to my face. But still, I had no idea what I was doing and there were definitely times when things didn’t go “according to plan.”
If I DID KNOW what I was doing, it probably could’ve been as fast as 1-2 months for me to completely transform my body and my face. That is, if I knew then what I know now, things would have definitely been different. And believe me, there were definitely times when I wished I had some help or someone to tell me what was going on!
There were times when I was standing there, in the kitchen, with 2-3 books on the counter and a bunch of vitamins, supplements, and solutions of “Don’t Try This at Home, Kids” and you can bet I wished I knew what I know now.
It wasn’t easy to get to the point of where I’m at now. It took hundreds of hours of research, lots of trial and error, many books, and many, many other things that probably shouldn’t even be mentioned on the internet.
I wish it could’ve been as easy washing my face with a magical solution or being born with perfect skin so I never even had to deal with it. Unfortunately, this was the hand of cards I was dealt and that was how I dealt with it.
Trust me when I tell you there were also times when I standing in the bathroom and well… yeah, it’s not pretty. Let’s just say, at that point in my life, I didn’t care what, I was going to do whatever it took to clear my acne no matter how embarrassing, painful, difficult, I was going to do it. And in my opinion, I earned it.
And that’s why I’m also saying that if you get a chance to skip all the hardships that I had to endure, TAKE IT. Seriously, it’s worth it. I have no idea how many $19.95′s I spent every month on an acne treatment program that didn’t work for, how many trips to the dermatologists where I paid $100 here and there because my insurance didn’t cover it, or how many $1,000′s I’ve spent on more serious laser treatments.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR: THE POINT OF MY STORY
And if I had to give a rough estimate, it probably would be something like this. And of course, everyone is different. So please do not look at this, and thing that you’re progress will go EXACTLY like this. Everyone is different, there are a lot of other factors that come into play, but if it’s what you guys are looking for, it’s what I’m going to give you… even if it is a rough outline:
If you know what you’re doing & low acne severity: 1-2 months (may be even faster than this)
If you know what you’re doing & moderate acne severity: 1-2 months (may be even faster than this)
If you know what you’re doing & high acne severity: 1-3 months (may be even faster than this)
If you kind of know what you’re doing & low acne severity: 2-3 months (may be even faster than this)
If you kind of know what you’re doing & moderate acne severity: 2-4 months (may be even faster than this)
If you kind of know what you’re doing & high acne severity: 2-6 months (may be even faster than this)
If you barely know what you’re doing & low acne severity: 1-3+ months to who knows? (may be even faster than this)
If you barely know what you’re doing & moderate acne severity: 2-4+ months or who knows? (may be even faster than this)
If you barely know what you’re doing & high acne severity: 2-6+ months to who knows? (may be even faster than this)
It’s weird saying “Results may vary” but I’m going to have to say it: Results may vary.
Basically, if I knew then what I know now, clearing my skin probably would’ve taken only 1-2 months. And on top of clearing my skin, I would have more energy, healthier hair, need less sleep, brighter eyes, and all that jazz. But instead, I had to learn everything myself, some things were right other things led me on a journey into Alice’s rabbit hole and into an entire other galaxy of “What the heck, why am I here wasting my time?” I might have been able to save myself thousands of dollars and years of my life.

Hey Ray,
Thank you for the article – i really appreciate it. I have been one of those people who is still a little skeptical on the whole regime. I have been suffering from moderate acne for about 8 months now.
I really want to believe in the regime – but I never really had a problem with acne in the past, and i ate basically whatever i wanted.
I find it hard to believe that the food i eat is the cause of the acne I am currently experiencing – because I never had that problem in the past. What do you think? Do you think your regime can apply to everyone, or just particularly the ones who have a correlation between acne and food?
Hi Ray! thankyou so much for the helpful tips
i’ve been getting acne since i was 10 years old! and i’ve lived with it since. i love carbs and sweets and all the junkfood in the world so i’ve pretty much been suffering from acne all my life. i started going on the diet u’ve prescribed and my skin is alot less inflamed. will give u an update soon on how it looks. i cannot thanku enough!
You can try drinking water and fruit juices. You can also eat foods that are rich in fiber – fruits and vegetables.
