No matter how perfect your skin is, everybody gets that occasional blemish once a while. What do you do about it? Click “Keep Reading” to find out…
I knew this day would come eventually. There was no hiding from it. The stars would align and the moon would bring forth the dark light to shine upon the… okay, okay, okay… so I got a pimple.
But this was all planned for you guys you know? I ate terrible foods, loaded up on the white rice and binged on the dessert section at the grungy buffets just so I could nurture this hearty and beast of a monster on the bottom of my chin. Okay, I’m kidding, so I didn’t really plan this, this pimple kind of just happened cuz I’ve been slackin’.
Or am I?

How I Know This Stuff…
Before I started the HICMA (HowIClearedMyAcne) regimen, I was seeing a professional Asian cosmetologist we called “Aunty Angel.” I was getting a facial almost every other week for a good 8-9 months. The way it worked was I would lie down flat on, what seemed like, a dentist’s chair and she would wash my face quickly, do a brief acid peel, clean the acid off, and expand my pores with a steam machine. Her method is an excellent technique, and so far, is the best that I know of. So, without further ado, I present to you:
Angel’s Facial Technique
What you’ll need
Needle
Sanitizer (Rubbing alcohol or matches)
Some tissue paper
What you need to know before
Don’t pop a pimple when it’s still premature because it’s a lot harder to get and you might end up pushing the infection further into your skin which can cause a cyst (a very large pimple). That being said, you decide whether or not you want to take the risk. You might get it or… you might not and create an even worse problem.
Try to wait until you can see the white part of the pimple, that’s the part you want to lightly prick.
Don’t forget to sanitize your hands, face, and needle before popping the pimple. When washing your hands, don’t forget to wash under your nails too. Obviously, use the rubbing alcohol or matches on the needle and not your face. Otherwise, after popping the pimple and it being exposed, it might be infected again.
From my experience at the cosmetologist, the pores on your face generally grow downward (think of the direction a man’s facial hair grows). This applies to the forehead, the cheeks, below the cheeks (if we’re looking at the face straight on), the area behind the eyes that’s above the cheeks but below the forehead, and above and below the lip. Pretty much everywhere except the nose.
Some people suggest covering your fingertips or hands with some sort of tissue. I don’t do this because I find this really bothersome and it makes squeezing the pimple a lot harder. Just remember, the basic purpose of covering with tissue is to reduce the amount of potential bacteria.
When you dry your hands on your towel, don’t forget that every time you flush the toilet, bacteria is releasing into the air from the water particles. So remember to renew your bathroom towel every week otherwise it’s pretty much like washing your hands in a public restroom then grabbing the doorknob.
How to do it:
Use the sanitized needle and gently prick the infected area. It’s the white tip on the very top of the pimple. Our goal is to try to get the whitehead out. The whitehead has clogged our pores and caused an infection, now pus has formed within your pore and caused a pimple. If you don’t get the whitehead out, your body will deal with it, but it will take quite a while before it’s completely gone.
After you’ve pricked the pimple, place one finger south of the pimple (suppose we’re looking at the face straight on) and one finger north of the pimple. You use the south finger to push behind the pimple and hold it there. Then you position the north finger behind the pimple and slide down with the north finger to push the whitehead out.
You can think of this sort of like the south finger being a pivot while the north finger does the work. The south gets underneath the pimple and holds it in place. Then the north finger comes in and pushes the whitehead out of the pimple.
Remember: Try to think of it as getting BEHIND the whitehead to push it out. A lot of people make the mistake of just pushing on the pimple. You might end up pushing the infection further into your face.
To give you an idea of why the north finger’s nail is pointing away from the face, my cosmetologist used to wear a fake nail on the tip of her pointer finger and use that nail to push the whitehead downward out of the pore (because the pores point downward). So in a way, you’re not really using your fingers but a little bit of your nail. If you’re nail is too thin and you’re digging into your skin too much, you may want to cover your fingers with the tissue papers to avoid damaging your skin.
Your goal is to get the whitehead out, you might feel a “pop” or suddenly see it shoot out. I know it sounds kind of gross but that’s kind of why they called it “popping” a pimple. Be careful not to damage your skin around the pimple too much before getting it out otherwise you may permanently scar yourself.
If you can get the pimple out, you have to get all the pus (yellow goo) and blood out afterwards. Squeeze some of the blood out for a bit and let the wound sit for a while before checking again. You want to do this because there may still be a little bit of the infection in the blood that’s right behind the infection. Once you see clear liquid, then you can stop squeezing.
You might want to apply a layer of aloe vera gel on afterwards so that the wound isn’t completely exposed. It usually takes me about 3 days before the scab falls off but this may vary from person to person.
