“I Love Bread and Carbs, Do Carbohydrates Cause Acne?”
There are many rumors that carbohydrates, or carbs for short, are bad for you. But what’s their relation to your body and acne? And do they really do your body harm?
Well, to a certain extent, carbs are bad for you. But that’s not the whole truth… because this saying is actually written in CODE. What you must understand is that not ALL carbohydrates are bad for you. All you need to do is make sure that you’re eating the RIGHT carbohydrates.
This is because carbohydrates and considered one of the three major energy building blocks of the human body. To exclude one of them from your diet would basically be to like removing a leg from a tripod and then seeing how long it would stand. Carbohydrates are essential for a healthy body and a healthy diet.
Let’s start with grains and acne. Do you know how grains can affect your skin and acne? If not, we have to start somewhere…
GRAINS
What the USDA recommends for a healthy diet is that we get most of our energy from grains. But the problem is that most grains are converted into glucose and then spike blood sugar level in a way that aggravates acne.
This problem usually doesn’t exist for people who don’t have acne. However, if you already have acne and you’re eating a lot of grains, you may end up with more break outs than you like.
So what I would suggest is for you to cut down on grains and eat less than what the Food Pyramid above suggests. This is not to say that you’re never going to be eating grains again or that you will be eating very little grains for the rest of your life, it’s just a temporary lifestyle change until we get the acne “situation” under control.
So when it comes to grains, eat less!
And if you are going to eat some form of carbohydrates or grains, then make sure you pick forms of grains that are high in carbohydrates such as whole grain wheat or oatmeal. Don’t be fooled by other products which are “multigrain” or “enriched.” Multigrain just means multiple grains, which is just a lot of different grains mixed together. It has very little to do with actual nutrient content and the amount of fiber. Enriched grains are often products where everything is stripped away and only nutrients such as folic acid and iron are added back in.
It’s kind of a ridiculous thing, enriched foods, because it’s like taking away all the vitamins and nutrients from a food and then adding back a few nutrients and calling it “enriched.” Many people don’t know this and buy this kind of product thinking that it’s… well… “enriched.”
SO HOW MUCH GRAINS SHOULD I EAT?
Very little. And when I say very little, I mean basically none, if possible. I’d actually recommend cutting out grains for several weeks and then, little by little, working up to no more than a handful a day at the most.
After several months, you might be able to have a serving or two of healthy, fiber rich grains.
I know this is going to be tough especially because, in today’s society, practically all the foods revolve around breads, pastas, noodles, rice, or some sort of carbohydrates. Fortunately, you’re one of the lucky people who are going to change their lifestyle and improve your health early. And a nice byproduct or reward of such an early change is also a clear face.
So be strong. This is probably going to be the toughest challenge for most people, but if I can do it, then so can you.
GRAINS YOU CAN EAT
None for a few months.
After a few months, one small serving or a handful of any whole wheat grain or oatmeal. Not too often though, maybe every other day or every two days.
After 6-8 months, every so often you can have a normal portion of healthy, fiber rich grains.
Dr Sushila Sharangdhar — registered dietician with the Indian Dietetic Association, former chief dietician at Mumbai’s P D Hinduja National Hospital and consultant dietician with several Indian companies — says, “Carbohydrates are as important as protein and fat in your diet. You must make sure you have a balanced intake of all three. People often confuse ‘moderation’ with ‘cut it out’. The fact is, any diet that denies the body of one energy source is a restrictive one and not wholesome.”
So what are good sources of carbohyrates?
GOOD CARBOHYDRATES, like the ones mentioned below, are complex carbohydrates, upon eating which you tend to feel full:
o Brown rice
o Oats
o Whole wheat bread
o Whole grain cereal
o Whole wheat pasta
BAD CARBOHYDRATES are PROCESSED OR REFINED and do not have nutritional value. Here are a few examples:
o Cookies
o Cakes
o Syrup
o Pies
o Sugar-sweetened cereal
o White bread
o Typical Instant Cup Noodles
o ETC…
(… And that’s just to list a few of the “bad carbs.” In fact, most of the carbohydrates and “carbs” that we commonly buy at the grocery store and eat at restaurants are made of the BAD CARBS!!!)
It’s trickery what these major foods companies do these days when they use words like “refined.” What whole wheat bread means is the entire grain of the bread including all the fiber and nutrients. This is the HEALTHY kind of carbohydrates because the fiber slows down your body’s absorption of the carb’s sugar so that your blood sugar level does NOT spike. You want this kind of carbohydrate.
What you DON’T want is the simple carbohydrate which are any breads, cakes, rices, etc. which are “processed” or “refined.” These kinds of carbohydrates are stripped of their outer layer and therefore quickly spike your blood sugar level. When your blood sugar level spikes, your insulin level must compensate to lower your blood sugar level again. This puts an enormous strain on your body and on your pancreas. If strenuous activities like this continue for a long period of time, certain parts of your body may suffer… permanent damage.
Other foods that may spike blood sugar level which are not refined or processed may include sugar (white, brown, powdered and raw) honey etc which are simple carbohydrates that provide few nutrients just extra calories.
The process of refining whole grain into fine flour removes fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Pretty much, eating these “empty” carbs does absolutely nothing for you, in fact, it HURTS you.
Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, are maxed out with nutrients, slow to digest and combat hunger pains, by making you feel full for longer. Whole grains, fruit and vegetables are also great carbohydrate sources supplying many vitamins and minerals.
Here’s the Carb Rule to follow when eating carbohydrates: You you eat carbs, eat them “from the earth” with no refining or processing. So the next time you hear someone say that carbs or carbohydrates are bad, you now know the truth behind the myth.
WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE ACNE FREE DIET?
The bigger picture is something that you want to focus on. It’s not about those one or two alcoholic drinks that will make you break out. The bigger picture is getting your body to a place where you’re not breaking out anymore and you don’t suffer from acne. Then, at this point, your body will be able to handle a few drinks here and there without having it aggravate your acne.
You’re going to need to really clear your acne though, I’m not talking about just washing your face or eating healthy. It’s about eating the RIGHT kind of foods, the kind of foods that will really help your acne. You’re going to have to learn about your body and really be in it for the long haul. You can’t just pop in a pill to be acne free, because that’s not really a solution to acne anyway. And if you’ve ever tried acne antibiotics, you probably already know that the results don’t last very long. On top of that, at the very end of those acne antibiotics, you’ve probably done your body more harm than good.
If you still have break outs or suffer from acne, I know that all you want to do is clear your acne so that you can move on with this part of your life. So I’m not going to try to settle with you with something that’s less than satisfying.
Let’s do it, let’s clear your acne. I’ve been through all the products, the gels, the creams, the surgeries, the antibiotics, the pain, and the heartache. As a previous acne sufferer, just like you, I’ve tried ALL the stuff whether it was cheap or … EXPENSIVE. And I’ve finally found what works.
I’m warning you though, this isn’t just a cream that you put on your face. You’re going to actually have to learn about your skin and your acne. But if you’re not the kind of person that’s ready for that yet, you might want to go on to something else… like ProActiv. However, if you’re ready to really clear your acne, I highly suggest you keep reading.
THE ACNE FREE DIET is designed to clear your acne quickly and naturally for long lasting and PERMANENT results so that you can look that girl in the eye and know that she finds you attractive and that she thinks you’re good looking TOO. The best part is, I don’t focus on the external, short term solutions like pills or the next face wash like ProActiv. My program is about clearing your acne naturally from the inside through the Acne Free Diet.
Best of all, it’s FREE for you to learn about.
So what are you waiting for? Stop wasting your time on all those money hungry acne products, t’s time to LEARN and really clear your skin!
THE FREE SOLUTION TO CLEARING YOUR ACNE
The solution to curing your acne is to not focus on improving your health in the commonly accepted way. Now, what I’m NOT saying is to not work out, not eat healthy, and not wash your skin. That is NOT what I’m saying. However, what I am saying is that what we believe now to be “taking care” of our bodies needs to be tweaked a little bit, especially if you have acne. And that “tweak” that you’re looking for is exactly what How To Clear Your Acne is about.
What every acne sufferer must learn, especially the ones that are really fit and health conscious yet still can’t figure out why they still have acne, is that there is a DIFFERENT KIND OF TAKING CARE OF YOUR BODY ROUTINE for us. Our bodies are different than the “average” person who eats whatever they want and just gains weight. Sometimes our bodies, which you’ve probably already noticed, doesn’t even gain weight. Sometimes, when we neglect our bodies, we just end up breaking out instead. And it sucks.
It doesn’t make any sense that we’re eating “right,” working out, getting a good sweat, going to a sauna, washing our face, and then doing a facial mask yet we STILL breakout. WHY?!
So whatever you do, don’t just keep working out and trying to eat “healthy” thinking that something’s going to change and that your acne is suddenly going to start clearing up if you just try harder.
I know this doesn’t work. Because that’s what I used to do. I would just redouble my efforts thinking that I wasn’t trying hard enough. But that’s not the answer and it’s not going to cure your acne.
You need to stop and think. Reformulate a new plan. Really try and understand what’s going on. Figure out the WHY.
It’s questions just like these that I racked my brain for years! I’ve been in your shoes before and it’s hard to really know what works and what doesn’t. It just seems like there are so many acne products out there, it’s hard to really find out with ones are telling the truth and which ones are lying. I’ve bought a lot of them too, Clearasil, Murad, ProActiv, those are just to name a few that I’ve tried. I used to have use a lot of acne products such as aloe vera, benzoyl peroxide, face creams, masks, etc… But these days, I barely even wash my face once a day sometimes, and I’m still clear. I’m proof that clearing your acne the healthy and natural way works. And it’s permanent too, I still have clear skin and I have no problems maintaining acne free, clear skin.
And I finally figured out the perfect routine and way to care for our bodies and our skin if you have acne. The true causes of acne are really dirty blood and an overwhelmed system. And I talk a lot about these two causes in my website and more in detail about how to deal with them in my products.
For anybody reading this article, if you’re serious about clearing your acne for good, the logical next step for you would be to learn about your body. It doesn’t matter if you choose me or someone else, I would highly recommend you to start learning about how to clear your acne from the inside instead of concentrating on the outside. Make sure you know that outside acne treatments are only short term, and that you really want to focus on clearing acne from the inside out.
I don’t hold back in this program, I’m telling you all of my experience, my stories, what I went through, what I learned, how I cleared my acne, and I’m teaching you exactly as if I were standing right next to you coaching you through the way. I WISH that I had something like this when I had acne. It would’ve saved me so much TIME, MONEY, and ENERGY.
I, and thousands of other people, have spent years of our lives suffering from acne. And I mean REALLY SUFFERING from having acne. And it’s just a handful of us that finally found the secret to be able to free ourselves from those dark days when we hated the reflections of ourselves in the mirror.
There are those people out there that look at their old pictures and remember the days when they USED TO HAVE acne.
Some of them now have moved on with their lives and forgotten about the nights that they were ashamed of meeting new people because of their acne.
The question I have for you is…
WILL YOU BE THAT GUY?
Or are you going to just be another one of the dozens and hundreds and thousands of guys that just stand and wait… or hopes that whatever you’re doing now will somehow magically start working?
If you want to know all the steps, top to bottom and front to back for how to clear your acne once in for all, then I have a hint for you …

i started seeing results after about 3 weeks and i got confident and started eating a lot of whole grain bread for like 2 weeks with every meal and 2 days later i break out bad like little red bumps all over my forehead and upper cheek area.
is it possible that the whole grain bread i was eating could have caused my breakout?
or could have it been something else…?
thanks a lot man…..!! =D
i been trying to defeat my acne since i was a sophomore in high school thank god i found this website!!
its awesome what your doing for us acne suffers THANK YOU really i mean it….!!!
Yes wholegrain bread does cause acne for some people. We’re all different. It does for me. When I introduce it I notice the acne starts after about 2 days or so. There is an easy way to test it actually… Go back to your acne free diet for a few days/weeks and ensure your face clears up (or lessens). Then introduce ONLY wholegrain bread as the new food. If your acne comes back (or gets worse) you know it’s that food.
My dermatologist said that I should eat pulp every morning, so i usually get white rice pulp. You mentioned that only brown rice is good, so how about white rice??
White rice is void of nutrients. I recommend staying away from it because eating it pretty much does your body almost nothing.
Hey ray, Lovely site you have up…I was wondering : you’re in great shape in terms of muscle mass. I am looking to gain weight and need to consume large amounts of protein and carbs to do so. I was just wondering, what clean foods have high protein and are practical to eat in large quantities?
Many thanks =)
Hi Junior, I eat a lot of fish, chicken, pork, and fresh vegetables. I don’t eat that much carbs but when I do, it’s usually whole wheat. But then again, this depends on your age because I’m in my mid-20s already.
Hey Ray, my derm said that I shouldn’t eat like potato (carbohydrates) and meat (protein) in one time becauso of digest, what do you think about this? Should I eat after 8 P.M. ? Thanks!!
Hello Ray, I have some bad acne even after taking isotretinoin. Now I’ve decided to clear my acne without damaging my body. But I’m wondering: are potatoes, sweet potatoes and yams good sources of carbohydrates? Thanks in advance!
just found this great website! thanks for all this information. One question though…as an athlete, how are you supposed to keep your weight up with this diet? I don’t think i would have enough energy to workout twice a day like I normally do. I need to eat at least 2500 calories a day im 5’11, 160.
carbs are essential to building muscle
I lost 6kg on this diet, I WANT TO GAIN WEIGHT!
I actually been on this low carb diet for about 2 weeks and I do feel like I am loosing my energy and muscles 🙁 its hard to do this diet while still working out 😛
Today I had a great idea or so I think: I could get my carbs from beans! yes BLACK BEANS! I heard they are awsome for bodybuilding AND acne!
Am I right Ray?
