Fermented Foods Cause Acne

Fermented Foods Blog

Be careful of fermented foods because they can possibly aggravate your acne if you’re already suffering from acne. This is something that even pro acne sufferers (those who have done their research) may not know.

Was consulting a client the other day and we ran into this question:

Does fermented foods cause acne?

So this could also apply to other questions that fit into the fermented food category such as:

Does kimchi cause acne?

Does sauerkraut cause acne?

Does yogurt cause acne?

And so on …

I’ll keep this article short and sweet, it’s been a while since I’ve written an article but it’s late and I have to catch some of my beauty sleep. I also want to make it known that I’m still here! I haven’t forgotten about you my readers and am still dedicated to helping you clearing your acne!

So let’s jump into it.

Fermented foods. We’re talking kefir, kiefer, kimchi (kim chi), sauerkraut, even possibly kombucha or other fermented drinks. You would think that because they are fermented, that they’re good for your gut and therefore going to help build your GI tract.

YES, you are on the right track in terms of thought. The stomach and GI tract are extremely important for having clear skin and curing your acne. This is because with fermented foods, you have a lot of natural probiotics that form and can be implanted into your body, thereby helping boost your digestive ability.

HOWEVER, the point that you’re missing is this!

Fermented foods are known to have trace amounts of alcohol depending on how long they have been fermented!

This doesn’t always happen because different foods ferment at different rates and the alcohol content can vary depending on many factors such as oxygen, light, sugar, length of time fermenting, etc.

For example, certain fermented beverages, even without adding alcohol, can have alcohol contents of up to 5%! And you wouldn’t even be able to taste it!

Here’s what I’m getting at, because fermented foods have a little bit of alcohol, if you’re already having problems with your acne then chances are you’re having problems with your stomach. If you’re having trouble with your stomach, then little bits of alcohol here and there will definitely irritate your stomach and cause you to poorly digest your food and possibly irritate your acne.

BOOM! Mind blown.

I know, I know. Damnit, another thing to add to my list of things I can’t eat, Ray. Thanks a lot man.

I’m sorry. The goal here isn’t to scare you, it’s to educate you about all the things you need to be careful and aware of it. You can definitely eat like a NORMAL person one day and have your fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir or whatever you like. But first we need to focus on healing your skin, stopping breakouts, and clearing your acne.

And to do that, we need to heal your body by getting you the acne nutrients that you skin is craving.
