How to Work Out When You Have Acne

Some men are into working out.  From muscle magazines we learn that you need to eat a lot of carbs, protein, and protein shakes.

So what do we do?

We eat a lot of carbs, protein, and protein shakes.  Here’s the problem with that.  It’s bad for your health.  And if you’ve noticed any changes in your skin, it may be negatively affecting your skin too.

QUICK TIP: Calculate how much protein you need.

If you are going to take protein though, which I can’t stop you from doing, here’s how to figure out how much you need.

Figure out your weight in kilograms and on days you’re working out, multiply that number by 2. On days you’re not working out, just multiply that number by 1.

For example. I weight about 150 pounds. My weight in kilograms is about 68 kilograms. So on days I’m working out hard, I should be eating about 68 X 2 = 136 grams of protein. On days that I’m NOT working out, I should be eating about 68 X 1 = 68 grams of protein.

How do you figure out your weight in kilograms? Easy.

Just divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 and you have how much you weigh in kilograms. For example.

I weigh 150 pounds. So that would be 150 / 2.2 = 68.18 kilograms. So I weigh about 68 kilograms (I rounded down). If you weighed 130 pounds, it would be 130 / 2.2. And if you weighed 180 pounds, it would be 180 / 2.2. Easy right?

WHY SOME PEOPLE BREAK OUT WHEN THEY WORK OUT AND OTHERS DON’T

When you work out, you’re body becomes a lot more “toxic” than it normally is.  This is because the pH in your body will lower causing it to become more acidic.  Hormones such as testosterone will be racing around in your body and physiological changes will happen.

When you’re sore from working out, it’s because your body ran out of oxygen to your muscles and instead you started running out lactic acid. And it’s this lactic acid in your muscles that causes the soreness.

Depending on how well your body tolerates and deals with acne already, sometimes the acne situation in your body may or may not be able to deal with the acidic change caused by working out.

WHY YOU MIGHT BE BREAKING OUT

The acidity that’s caused by working out may NOT be causing your acne, but it could possibly be AGGRAVATING it.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

You really have 3 options:

1.) Stop working out
2.) Work out just little enough to not change your body’s physiology and pH level too much
3.) Work out but compensate for the change in pH

Option #1: Stop working out.

If you stop working out then there won’t be any changes. If there aren’t as many changes in your pH you have one LESS factor going against you and your acne that you have to deal with. Simple as that. It’s completely removing a possible element that might be contributing towards your acne.

However, for most people who want to look good and feel good, to NOT work out and stop fitness altogether isn’t a viable option. After all, you probably are reading this because you are passionate about working out and also ready to have clear skin already, am I right?

Therefore, for most people, this is probably not going to happen.

Option #2: Work out just little enough to not change your body’s physiology and pH level too much.

For some people, why even consider this one? Either you work out or you just DON’T. This might be even considered just like NOT working out because if this is the case, why work out at all if you can barely see the results?

For some people it might just be about being “fit” and “exercise” so this might work. The occasional jog every now and then or just doing a few push ups and sit ups just to make sure that you don’t “too” out of shape. This isn’t bad and may work for some people if they are just trying to stay moving.

For other people, a bit like myself at this point in my life, exercise connotes more with “working out.” In other words, I’m doing weights and concentrating a lot more on anaerobic because I want to feel and see the results. If that’s the case, this my not be the option for you.

However, this might work for some people because this does not change the body’s hormonal levels, pH, or physiology too much because it’s not too out of the ordinary of what you might do on a normal day to day basis. Therefore, it may not affect your acne situation, if you have one, too badly.

Option #3: Work out but compensate for the pH change.

For those people who skipped immediately to this option and didn’t read the other ones, I have a feeling that, for most people, this was probably the one that they were eyeing all along.

This mentality may be, “If I’m going to work out, I’m going to WORK OUT.”

If this is the case, there are some special things that you should probably know. I’ve worked out for a number of years on and off and taken mental notes on the physiological and external changes that seem to be happening with my body when I do certain things and also how they pertain to acne.

It’s all about diet and all about special changes that you make in that diet. This is especially important if you’re suffering from acne at this time and we have not completely dealt with the acne problem deep down inside you.

So how do you compensate when you do extensive weight training or more rigorous work outs?

THE SOLUTION TO YOUR ACNE

The solution to curing your acne is to not focus on improving your health in the commonly accepted way.   Now, what I’m NOT saying is to not work out, not eat healthy, and not wash your skin.  That is NOT what I’m saying.  However, what I am saying is that what we believe now to be “taking care” of our bodies needs to be tweaked a little bit, especially if you have acne.  And that “tweak” that you’re looking for is exactly what How To Clear Your Acne is about.

What every acne sufferer must learn, especially the ones that are really fit and health conscious yet still can’t figure out why they still have acne, is that there is a DIFFERENT KIND OF TAKING CARE OF YOUR BODY ROUTINE for us.  Our bodies are different than the “average” person who eats whatever they want and just gains weight.  Sometimes our bodies, which you’ve probably already noticed, doesn’t even gain weight.  Sometimes, when we neglect our bodies, we just end up breaking out instead.  And it sucks.

It doesn’t make any sense that we’re eating “right,” working out, getting a good sweat, going to a sauna, washing our face, and then doing a facial mask yet we STILL breakout.  WHY?!

So whatever you do, don’t just keep working out and trying to eat “healthy” thinking that something’s going to change and that your acne is suddenly going to start clearing up if you just try harder.

I know this doesn’t work.  Because that’s what I used to do.  I would just redouble my efforts thinking that I wasn’t trying hard enough.  But that’s not the answer and it’s not going to cure your acne.

You need to stop and think.  Reformulate a new plan.  Really try and understand what’s going on.  Figure out the WHY.

It’s questions just like these that I racked my brain for years!   I’ve been in your shoes before and it’s hard to really know what works and what doesn’t.  It just seems like there are so many acne products out there, it’s hard to really find out with ones are telling the truth and which ones are lying. I’ve bought a lot of them too, Clearasil, Murad, ProActiv, those are just to name a few that I’ve tried.  I used to have use a lot of acne products such as aloe vera, benzoyl peroxide, face creams, masks, etc… But these days, I barely even wash my face once a day sometimes, and I’m still clear. I’m proof that clearing your acne the healthy and natural way works. And it’s permanent too, I still have clear skin and I have no problems maintaining acne free, clear skin.

Make sure you know that outside acne treatments are only short term, and that you really want to focus on clearing acne from the inside out.

    Great article 🙂 i have been playing soccer for 10 years, you really think that could be main problem?

      I don’t think soccer itself could be the problem, it’s probably the combination of other factors more than just exercise. In other words, an activity like soccer would probably be lower on the list of affecting your acne.

I ate protein shake much. But now I don’t because I think protein shake definitely affects my skin in a bad way. And also I quit working out. I don’t know what to eat, how to eat well working out. I know that after working out, for make muscle larger we have to eat protein shake or food that contains much protein. But in this case my skin becomes terrible. I get much much stress from my skin. But I want to be in a good shape like you. What I have to do Ray? Please help me and people who are suffering from acne but want to work out!
