“How Do I Properly Pop My Pimples?”

Ray J. Wang Talks About 7 Tricks, Tips and Secrets You Can Use to Pop Your Pimple the Right Way.

Really… when I think about it, sometimes I still can’t believe that I publicized the popping of my pimple so casually over the internet. That’s why… I try not to think about it.

Many people enjoyed the video. However, I couldn’t help but feel that I didn’t cover certain questions and concerns that might up when you’re about to tackle that swollen monster on your cheek.

That’s why I’m dedicating this article to the 7 SECRETS about properly popping your pimple “they” never told you growing up.

SECRET #1: Popping & Scarring

It’s true that you can get a scar from popping your pimple. But usually it’s if you don’t do it the right way with the right method and the right sterilization. In the video, I first prick the whitehead part of the pimple, the infected part, with the sterilized needle so that when I squeeze it, the infection and whitehead has an outlet to come out of very easily.

If I didn’t prick the tip of the pimple with a needle and just went ahead with the squeezing, the whitehead could go any direction. Just crossing my fingers and hoping that it comes out in the direction that I want, isn’t good enough for me. The last thing that I want is for the infection to go further into the skin and cause me more problems.

SECRET #2: Sterilizing the Needle

Some people sterilize and some people don’t. If you want to do it, don’t be lazy. The last thing that anyone wants is to finish popping the pimple and remove the infection only to RE-INFECT the wound with the pimple that was originally used to remove the infection in the first place. It’s a little ironic, don’t you think?

SECRET #3: If it doesn’t come out easily, leave it… Don’t force it

If you do everything correctly, the whitehead infection and pus should come out pretty easily. I’m not saying you should barely have to touch it, I’m just saying it shouldn’t be too laborious.

The reason why this is a secret is because if you are trying too hard and it’s still not coming out, you’re probably going to end up tearing the skin around the pimple. Then the pimple would probably look worse than before and… the pimple would still be there.

Trust me on this one, personal experience.

SECRET #4: Know when the fruit is ripe

Gross as this concept may sound, it’s important that you don’t try and pop the pimple too early. I bring this up because some people, the second they see a pimple forming, they go and try to pop it (because I used to be like this). They want to get rid of it and try to pop it before it’s ready to be popped.

Not a good idea. And I say this because it probably won’t be easy to pop but more importantly, it’s going to be difficult to find where to prick the whitehead with that needle.

SECRET #5: Leave it alone afterward

If you guys were anything like me when I was a teenager. If I ever successfully popped a pimple, I couldn’t wait until the scab fell off. In fact, if I saw that the scab was about to come off, I would actually help it along a little… sometimes by taking it off myself… with my own hands.

Not… a good idea. If you ever pop a pimple. You can dab it a little with a clean tissue paper to make sure there isn’t blood everywhere but beyond that, just leave it alone. Let your body heal itself normally and when that scab is ready to come off, it’ll come off itself.

Any sooner (e.g. if you decide to manually peel the scab off itself that’s not ready to be peeled off) and you’ll definitely leave a permanent scar.

SECRET #6: Was it a successful popping?

Usually, my rule of thumb is this: If you pop it correctly it’s not going to hurt the next day. If you didn’t pop it correctly or get all of the whitehead and infection out, its probably still going to hurt if you press on it a bit and there’s also probably going to be a little “mound” that’s still there.

At this point, you can choose to go at it again and try another round at popping this pimple, you can leave it for a couple days and try again, or you can just leave it along and give up.

The point is, if it still hurts and there’s still a mound, the infection is still probably swarming around in your pimple. You didn’t get it all out. There have been times when I have popped a pimple, then 24 hours later popped the same pimple again.

SECRET #7: Pop it at night.

Usually, popping a pimple will irritate the skin around it a bit. And usually, people don’t want to walk around the day with a giant red mark on their cheek. So my advise here is to do “cosmetic surgery” at night.

This way, you can do the “operation” and then go to sleep right after. If things go according to plan, by the time you wake up the redness will have faded a bit and you rest assured knowing that the worst part of that pimple is over.
