3 Thanksgiving Tips if You Have Acne

By 11/24/2014Blog, Eating at Home

Here are 3 of my best tips for you, if you have acne, and don’t want to suffer anymore break outs because of Thanksgiving dinner … because there’s going to be a LOT of temptation.

TIP #1: NO DAIRY

In my experience, nothing aggravates acne in combination with other foods like dairy does. So you can chow down on all the foods you want, just stay away from things that are made with a lot of dairy or milk. This would include things like macaroni and cheese, or things covered in cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, ice cream.

Certain breads have a little bit of dairy in them and I know it’s difficult to stay away from all kinds of dairy, but generally try to avoid it if you can.

SOLUTION

Feel free to eat as many other foods such as the turkey, any kind of meat, any vegetables, drinks, gravy, that’s all good. But definitely stay away from dairy because it will aggravate your acne and lead to inflammation of your clogged pores.

TIP #2: ENZYMES

So at the very end of your meal, you’re most likely going to be stuffed. It is Thanksgiving after all and we’re celebrating the fact that the Pilgrims and Indians came together so we’re all going to shovel food in our faces.

Your stomach is going to be overwhelmed being filled to it’s maximum capacity. It’s going to have a hard time digesting food and that leads to a lot of food not being digested properly or quickly. This leads to fermentation and sugars to feed any acne bacteria sitting in your stomach.

Not good. We don’t want to feed the acne bacteria in your stomach.

SOLUTION

Go online or to a health food store and get a digestive enzyme pill. Whatever the suggested serving size for these enzymes are, take twice as much after your meal. It will help your body breakdown the food faster thereby avoiding the feeding of that acne bacteria.

TIP #3: HAVE FUN

I’m kidding, I hate when people write that. It’s such a lame piece of advice.

REAL TIP #3: DRINK ALCOHOL RIGHT

If you’re of age, you’re probably also going to be drinking quite a bit. Here’s the problem with that, you already have an acne problem so you’re stomach and liver are probably weak. But it’s Thanksgiving and you gotta party. The alcohol is going to further inhibit the digestion process and aggravate your acne even more.

SOLUTION

Here’s what you can do, since you’re going to be drinking, try to wait and drink any alcohol or fluids at least 45 minutes to an hour after your meal. This will give your stomach time to digest it’s food (your stomach will digest faster if you’re not extremely full).

If you do drink alcohol, try not to mix different kinds of alcohols and drink tequila here and then rum later, it’s harder for your body to break down and digest. Again, your digest will feed the acne bacteria and aggravate your acne.

When picking alcohol, make sure you try to stay away from drinks that are loaded with sugar like mai tais or appletinis. Sure they’re delicious but the added sugar will aggravate your acne by feeding the acne bacteria and making your body more acidic.

So that’s it!

Those are my 3 tips this year to help you brace for impact the Thanksgiving food that’s coming your face. Hope your face survives the blow and bad acne break outs don’t follow after.

But even if you they do, you have the tools for a quick and natural healing. And if you don’t know what I’m saying, I highly recommend you start with my book below.

Good luck out there.
